Mina Ristić Jonić Earns the Title of Doctor of Arts
By defending the doctoral art project “Sonatas for Violin and Piano by Azerbaijani Composers of the Second Half of the 20th Century – Questions of Style and the Creation of an Interpretation”, pianist Mina Ristić Jonić earned the title of Doctor of Arts at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade on 27 October 2021.
On 27 October 2021, pianist Mina Ristić Jonić defended her doctoral art project “Sonatas for Violin and Piano by Azerbaijani Composers of the Second Half of the 20th Century – Questions of Style and the Creation of an Interpretation” at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade, earning the title of Doctor of Arts in chamber music. Her mentor was Dr Jasna Tucović, and the project was assessed by a committee of the Department of Chamber Music.
The project has two parts. The artistic part consisted of the performance of four sonatas for violin and piano, by Kara Karayev, Azer Rzayev, Aydin Azimov and Eldar Mansurov, which Mina Ristić Jonić performed with violinist Isidora Marjanović in February 2021. The written part examines the stylistic features of these works and the process through which a performer builds their interpretation. One of its sources was a written interview with the composer Eldar Mansurov.
The thesis introduces the local professional community to repertoire that is rarely performed here and continues Mina Ristić Jonić’s long-standing engagement with Azerbaijani music, which she regularly performs and promotes at concerts in Serbia.
After the defence, Mina Ristić Jonić thanked Isidora Marjanović, “who played with me from the beginning to the end of this musical journey”, her mentor Jasna Tucović for her advice and support, and the committee of the Department of Chamber Music.
The ceremonial promotion of Doctors of Arts and Doctors of Science of the Faculty of Music was held on 9 June 2022 at the Rectorate of the University of Arts in Belgrade, where Mina Ristić Jonić received her official Doctor of Arts diploma.
